  Armaggedon pic from new childrens book?

  does anyone have this book that could scan the pic?

  i heard tell that it was fairly graphic for a childrens book, rather in the spirit of the paradise book of the 50s.. thanks.

  There are a number of illustrations that are questionable for children. Check out page 133. Here there is an illustration of Stephen being stoned to death. I don't want my child seeing this. An illustration of a man having his skull crushed by large rocks is not appropriate.

  Page 137 shows a man being punched in the face. Not as bad, but still kind of violent.

  On the lighter side...

  See page 146 where David Hasselhoff (Mitch from Baywatch) is playing soccer right under a picture of Celine Dion.

  Page 199 has Jesus portrayed either as 8 feet tall, or surrounded by midget Roman soldiers.

  Page 246 is full of subtle suggestions. Bad boys smoke and wear their hats backwards. Bad men wear flannel shirts and have beards. Good boys wear suits and good men are clean shaven.

  Page 251 clearly indicates that the Crayola crayon company will survive armagedon. Ditto for the Thermos (or maybe Coleman) company. Also Raggedy Anne obviously has no pagan origins, as the doll survived armageddon too.

  Why are they quoting from "Babylon the Great"? Catholics are supposed to be wrong about everything, but it's okay to quote from their literature?

  the tour is just over 1/2 way, and he is only 21 seconds ahead.

  tomorrow is the individual time trial.

  i think that will be the determining factor.

  I can't imagine a harder sporting event than the Tour de France. Can you imagine climbing mountain roads for 6 hours in 95°F heat. Then do it again the next day. And then the next...

  Throw in a double fractured collarbone, and it boggles the mind.

  And all this at a race pace, not a casual ride. Even the rider who comes in dead last has by respect.

  As for the magnitude of it's popularity, apparently 20 million people come out to see it live. That has to be a record. Then come to this side of the Atlantic and you are hard pressed to find anyone that even knows it's going on.

  If only there was a Canadian in the tour. Perhaps I should start training my little boy. In 20 years he could good enough to be invited to the tour! (He's only 18 months old now, but he watches the tour with me.)

  Once again, they are being less than honest with their selection of this quote.

  None the less a certain stress was often laid in Christian sermons and in mortuary inscriptions upon the idea that the day of a man's death was his birthday to a new life. Thus St. Ambrose (Serm. 57, de Depos. St. Eusebii) declares that "the day of our burial is calledour birthday (natalis), because, being set free from the prison of our crimes, we are born to the liberty of the Saviour", and he goes on "wherefore this day is observed as a great celebration, for it is in truth a festival of the highest order to be dead to our vices and to live to righteousness alone." And we find such inscriptions as the following

  Where "natus in pace" clearly refers to eternal rest. So again Origen had evidently some similar thought before him when he insists that "of all the holy people in the Scriptures, no one is recorded to have kept a feast or held a great banquet on his birthday. It is only sinners (like Pharaoh and Herod) who make great rejoicings over the day on which they were born into this world below" (Origen, in Levit., Hom. VIII, in Migne P.G., XII, 495). Naturally a certain amount of confusion resulted from this use of the same word natalis sometimes to signify natural birth, sometimes the passage to a better life. The former was consequently often distinguished as natale genuinum, natale de nativitate, the latter as natale passionis or de passione, sometimes abbreviated as N.P.

  Read this section over, and notice the highlighted section. That is the part that was quoted in that new publication.

  Others have won five but not consecutively!

  Actually, that is not true. One rider did win five in a row. It was Miguel Indurain from 1991 to 1995.

  Todays ITT proved to be a huge win for Jan Ullrich. He has now moved up to 2nd place, only 34 seconds behind Armstrong. He rode the 47 kms in 58 min 32 seconds. He was the only rider to break the 1 hour barrier.

  Another rider to watch is Alexander Vinokourov. He has been riding an outstanding race, both in the mountains and todays ITT. He is now 3rd in the overall standings. As of yesterday, he was second, only 21 seconds behind Lance.

  As for Tyler Hamilton, what a resolve that man has. Not only to continue with a double fractured collarbone, but to be so competitive! I broke my collarbone, and I ride, but I cannot fathom riding with a broken collarbone.

  Tomorrow they hit the mountains again near the end of the day. Will Lance keep the yellow? I think Ullrich will take it away from Lance and end up this years winner.

  It was a shame to see Joseba Beloki crash the other day. He would have given Lance a run for the yellow. A broken femur is a very serious injury!

  My JW father felt the need to leave this new publication at my house. Lucky me! I was leafing through it, and noticed a quote on page 155 about birthday celebrations. It is a quote from the Catholic Encyclopedia (which seems a little hypocritical to me) which contains the infamous 3 dots. Does anyone have access to the Catholic encyclopedia? If so, what was left out of the quote?

  My Catholic wife looked through it too, and felt that some of the illustrations were too violent for our little boy. There is a picture of someone being stoned to death. I agree that my little boy doesn't need to have the nightmares I used to have after studying that old orange Paradise book.

  Thanks in advance for any information about this quote.

  How old were you when you got Baptised?

  i was 13 at the time.

  i wanted to get baptised before the end came in 1975. .

  back then, 13 was borderline young for baptism, but from what i've been reading, some are now getting baptised as young as 9 or 10. .
